Argento A Go Go
Although even hardened fans of one-time Italian horror/giallo giant Dario Argento all but gave up with the cringe-worthy Il Cartaio(2004), the news that the final installment of what many had resigned themselves to believe was the incomplete "Three Mothers" trilogy has been announced. Called - perhaps not enigmatically - La Terza Madre (The Three Mothers), it is the final film in the series that also contains what many believe to be his opus, Suspiria (1977) and the equally fascinating and beautiful (although somewhat neglected outside of fan circles) Inferno (1980). Suspiria starlet Jessica Harper is rumoured to be making a return in this film with her ex-co-star hornbag Udo Keir, but the big casting news is that Argento will feature once again his daughter, Asia, in the lead role. Based loosely on Thomas de Quincey's Suspiria de Profundis, that one of the mothers was named Mater Tenebrarum was enough for fans to be able to (somewhat unhappily) dismiss his 1982 film Tenebrae as an informal and unofficial end to the series, but the news about the upcoming film have gladly put the kaibosh on this idea. Check out the exhaustive entry at Wikipedia for more info.
